Queensland Treasurer and Woodridge MP Cameron Dick is promising to create jobs in Logan City, and the rest of Queensland, as a part of the new budget.

He is promising to restore frontline services in Logan City, with plans to employ 489 extra nurses, 109 doctors, 446 teachers, and an additional 120 teacher aides.

At the state budget breakfast this morning, held in Logan Central, Cameron Dick broke down the figures on how the budget will work to support Logan City.

He said the biggest focus for the budget was creating jobs and delivering infrastructure.

“In Logan City and all of Queensland we’re really focusing on what matters – jobs,” Mr Dick said.

“It follows the path clearly outlined in our COVID-19 fiscal and economic review and in the economic recovery plan which focused on protecting our health, creating jobs, and working together.

“The efforts of Queenslanders in containing the health impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have seen the state recover faster economically than others and this budget outlines the continued steps we will be taking on that recovery.”

Mr Dick said the Queensland budget will directly support job creation in Logan City with significant expenditure including:

Infrastructure – $666 million for productivity-enhancing infrastructure and capital works, estimated to support around 2,200 jobs from 2020-2021

Health – $2.7 billion for the Metro South Hospital and health services in Logan City.

Education – $137.9 million to maintain, improve, and upgrade Logan City schools.

Social housing – $77 million in 2020-2021 to expand and improve social housing, including $2.8 million Works for Tradies Initiative contributing to Queensland’s economic recovery.

South West Pipeline – $95.2 million to construct a pipeline to connect Beaudesert to the South East Queensland Water Grid to secure long-term water supply.

Covid Works for Queensland – $8.3 million to support the delivery of jobs creating new infrastructure, maintenance or minor works as part of the Queensland Government’s Economic Recovery Plan.
