Vlogger walks every Beenleigh road ‘it’s an amazing area’

A travel vlogger, who’s new to Logan City, has spent the last three months walking every Beenleigh road to learn about the town’s rich history, and has filmed it for his YouTube channel.

Robert Braiden said he got the idea from Tony Martin, an Australian comedian, writer and broadcaster.

“He and his wife have been on this multi year project to walk every road in Melbourne and I thought that would be a really great project for me and my YouTube channel,” he said.

“Because I just moved to Beenleigh and I wanted to know more about the town and learn more about the local history and see what’s out there. So off I went.”

Mr Braiden used two different cameras to film his walks.

“I was able to get some beautiful smooth shots when walking around Beenleigh,” he said.

“Really I was just looking for those little things on each street that make them interesting.

“It might be a certain view, a beautiful house, some nice trees, or even native wildlife.

“There’s always something unique on each road that really makes the videos.”

He used a large map he’d printed, to mark out his journey and keep track of which roads he was going to walk and film, on which days.

“I marked off the roads as I went and it was actually a bit of a logistical nightmare to keep track of all of the roads as I walked them,” Mr Braiden said.

“I just had so much footage too. It turned out to be a much bigger job than I originally thought.”

The project involved a lot of research into Beenleigh’s history, which Mr Braiden said he really enjoyed.

“The wonderful thing about walking is that when you’re walking you also kind of learn as you go along,” he said.

“If you’re driving you just see the facades and the fronts of buildings as you’re going along.

“But when walking you see the details so I actually learnt more by getting out on foot and looking at these places, looking at these old buildings and roads.

“Online you can find the basic history of stuff but when walking you learn through what you see and experience.”

Mr Braiden said through his walking endeavours he learnt there was once a huge dam in the middle of what is now the Beenleigh town centre.

“It was actually a big water reservoir which seems crazy now,” he said.

“Beenleigh has a lot going for it and is an amazing area.

“I got excited walking around the town and seeing what’s here. Some things maybe aren’t so good but that’s the same as anywhere.

“Overall there’s so much going on and so much potential for Beenleigh.”
