BRINGING JOY to the community after such a hard year is something My News Feed, Rebel 90.5 FM and the Breeze 92.1 FM is hoping to achieve this Christmas season.

The 2020 Light Up Logan Christmas Lights Competition is now on, and entrants are excited to show their spectacular light displays across Logan City.

Residential entrant from Cornubia, Howard Thrift says he loves seeing the community come together to enjoy the lights as part of the Christmas tradition.

“Each year we put in weeks of setting up, and at times it can be hard and frustrating work,” Mr Thrift said. “The reward we get is the joyful expression on kids’ faces when parents bring them to our display.”

“We only need to hear the squeals of delight from the children to know we have accomplished what we set out to do, and it’s those moments each night which gives me pride in what we have done.”

Mr Thrift says his display will be complete from this weekend, when visitors can catch a glimpse of Santa waving and checking his list through their window.

“From a teaser video I posted to our suburb’s Facebook page a couple of weeks back, it’s evident people are waiting for the full display to be on from this Sunday onwards,” he said.

Another residential entrant, Kelly Sneddon from Marsden, says the reason her family decorates the house in Christmas lights is to bring Christmas cheer to their five foster children’s faces, and to remind visitors who drive past the house that Christmas is for giving.

“We get so much joy watching their little faces light up every time we turn [the Christmas lights] on,” she said. “And we know there’s people out there who can’t afford to do things like this, so it’s nice to know we’re making a difference in the community.”
