In Federal Parliament, Rankin MP Jim Chalmers spoke out in support of Logan City Local Legends.

“Each year we celebrate the selflessness and service of Local Legends in our community,” Mr Chalmers said via social media.

“We couldn’t hold the usual ceremony this time around, so I took the opportunity in the parliament to thank and acknowledge this year’s 82 legends, whose tireless work enriches our local area especially in difficult times.”

In Federal Parliament Mr Chalmers recognised the significance of the Local Legends award.

“I wanted to speak today about the celebration of selflessness that we conduct each year in my community in the southern suburbs of Brisbane and the northern half of Logan City,” he said in Parliament.

“When you think about the year that we’ve all just been through in local communities right around Australia it has never been more important to recognise that we are part of a community, that we exist to look out for each other and look after each other and to recognise that if anybody is at risk of falling behind then our responsibility as members of communities is to make sure that we help them along. That’s what the Local Legends awards are all about.

“Typically we’d get together at Logan Diggers with hundreds of supporters to celebrate the selflessness of our local community.

“There are too many to mention today but I wanted to mention a few.

“People like Brian Roberts from Logan Brothers who runs the old boys there and does so much for our local community.

“People like John and Jill from Daisy Hill Neighbourhood Watch.

“People like Charlie and Jenny Bennett who run the Logan MS support group.

“The Timoteo family who have done so much for the Logan House Fire Support Network.

“And so many others. There’s too many to mention in a limited amount of time.

“What these people show is that this is how we roll in Rankin…this is what makes our community such an extraordinary place.”

Other Logan City Local Legends were mentioned, and Jim Chalmers full speech in Federal Parliament can be found here.
