Logan City Council Deputy Mayor Jon Raven has shared how much Council has been spending locally, in Logan City.

“Local spend means local jobs,” he said.

“Council spends just under half a billion dollars each year on services and materials.

“Under the Administrator only 18% of that money was spent with local businesses.

“When your new Council was elected we set the Procurement team a challenge, could you more than double that local spend in a year? We gave them a target of 45%.

“Total local spend last financial year was $77million. In 6 months of this year we’re already up to $85million!

“Why is that important? It means that your rates are being spent with businesses who hire local residents, use local contractors, and it keeps your money in your community.

“No one likes to pay rates, but it makes it a little easier knowing those rates are supporting local jobs.”
