Last weekend, Turning Canungra Pink wrapped up its festivities of raising funds for and awareness of cancer diagnosis – and this year saw the most funds raised since the annual event started.
The annual event, which is run by the Canungra Chamber of Commerce, was started in 2011 by a local business owner and breast cancer survivor.
Leah Collins from Turning Canungra Pink, says each October, the beautiful town of Canungra turns pink to raise funds and awareness for all types of cancer.
“50 per cent of the proceeds raised goes to the Cancer Council and 50 percent goes to the PINK ASSIST fund which provides financial support to the local residents of Canungra fighting cancer,” Leah says.
“I’m unsure the exact amount raised but from what I hear, its been the most raised since turning Canungra pink started,” says Leah.
In 2017, 2018 Turning Canungra Pink successfully raised over $45,000, and in 2019 the event raised just over $50,000.
“Most of the events were organised by local businesses of Canungra [and] the launch party and country fair were organised and assisted by members of the committee.
“Unfortunately, our country fair was cancelled due to bad weather forecast.”
Despite the Country Fair being cancelled, the rest of the activities throughout the month of October have been hailed a success by organisers. You can check out more info about the events and photos on Turning Caunugra Pink socials here.
