Truckie rescued from floodwaters near Goondiwindi

Emergency services in Queensland have rescued a truck driver from floodwaters near Goondiwindi.

Swiftwater rescue technicians were called to rescue the man after his vehicle ran into flood water off the Cunningham Hwy early this morning.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman says the truck driver was in the cab so the crew made contact in their rescue boat and paddled over to the vehicle and then brought him to dry ground.

Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman says paramedics assessed the man and he didn’t need transport to hospital.

The rescue comes as the Queensland braces for thunderstorms and flooding today, with torrential rain expected to lash the state.

A severe weather warning is in place for the Granite Belt, Central Highlands and the Darling Downs with storms, heavy rain and possible hail forecast.
