I was really looking forward to dining out at Degani and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s in a great location right in the Beenleigh Mall right at the main entrance. This bright modern cafe, featuring a motorcycle as decor, boasts stunning natural light which provides a natural feel and is accentuated by a large number of potted plants placed throughout the dining area. The Beenleigh Mall is a newly renovated centre on Main Street in Beenleigh and as such is clean, large and relatively inviting. There is no fighting for parking space with ample spots available.
Degani uses their own coffee roastery out of Melbourne to create their “Degani Blend” coffee. Normally I would applaud a business for doing this, for stepping away from the Di Bella’s and Merlo’s of the world but this time around, the coffee wasn’t a blend that appealed to my palate. Again, the style of coffee and the taste is a personal one. (let’s face it, many Americans are happy to indulge with coffee from a percolator that’s been sitting on the base for several hours!) The coffee didn’t make the grade for this reviewer, but there are so many other positives to mention.
I am an absolute sucker for a “big breakfast” and so when I saw this on Degani’s menu I will admittedly, drawn in. The All-Day Breakfast Menu features your standard breakfast fare. The only thing outside of the ordinary being a drunken banana pancakes dish made with local Beenleigh Rum Liqueur infused maple syrup. As much as I love supporting Beenleigh Rum, I did, however, fall back to the old faithful Big Breakfast. Bacon, sourdough, eggs (cooked your way), chorizo, mushroom, smashed avo, spinach, and a hash brown. It was a large meal. What surprised me most, however, was the size of the plate it was served on. What might have doubled as a pizza tray was placed in front of me with everything neatly placed in its own section. If I had been dining with anyone there would have been no space left on the table for their meal!
Overall the food was good. The chorizo had a nice kick to it, the avocado was clearly fresh and the eggs were cooked well. The bacon was a little on the greasy side and far from “crispy” as the menu had stated and the toast was barely toasted. (I suppose some like it that way!) The staff at Degani were bright a cheerful. I was welcomed upon entering the cafe and after completing the COVID safe check-in protocols were quickly lead to my table. Food and drinks were all served quickly and the staff were welcoming and attentive.
The restaurant was nice, the service was great, even if the coffee wasn’t to my taste!
