South west Queensland towns on floodwatch

The flood threat isn’t over in Queensland yet with major flood warnings remaining for parts of the state.

Water is now moving downstream after flash flooding hit southern Queensland last week saturating towns including Goondiwindi and Inglewood.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Deputy Commissioner Mark Roach says towns in the south west are now on floodwatch.

Meanwhile,Goondiwindi Regional Council is encouraging Inglewood residents who were impacted by last week’s flood to apply for financial assistance if eligible.

Grants are now available under the jointly-funded Commonwealth and State-Disaster Relief Funding Arrangements.

The grants are available  to residents who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the flooding, including Emergency Hardship Assistance grants of up to $180 per person and $900 for a family of five.

This financial assistance helps cover the costs of essential items, such as food, medication and clothing, for people who have been directly impacted by this disaster event.
