Logan City Council is planning to demolish and replace toilet blocks, as well as playground rubber at three local parks.
Council will seek to demolish and replace the public toilet blocks at Chris Green Park, Beenleigh, Eridani Park, Kingston, as well as the playground rubber at Demeio Park, Berrinba.
Councillors voted that the Parks Manager be requested to arrange for the demolition and replacement of the assets, while the Finance Manager be requested to write off the assets in today’s City Lifestyle Committee meeting.
The motion was moved by Councillor Teresa Lane, seconded by Councillor Karen Murphy and was carried unanimously.
According to the report tabled in the meeting, the parks assets need to be demolished to make way for upgraded, re-located or safer facilities.
The toilet block at Chris Green Park, valued at $63,835, was formerly used by the Beenleigh Pony Club and was not available to general park users.
Maintenance of this toilet block ceased at the time of closure and has been locked securely to deter unwanted access.
All internal fittings have since been removed, with the water and electricity switched off.
It is proposed to that this toilet block will be demolished.
The toilet block at Eridani Park, Kingston, valued at $46,582, is showing signs of significant erosion around the foundations in its current location and extensive deterioration of supporting structures.
The block is accessible 24 hours and is used by the park users, as well as by people attending the nearby community centre.
It is proposed to demolish this toilet block, re-locate, and re-design to current standards as part of a broader scheme to re-develop the park.
The rubber installed at Demo Park, Berrinba, valued at $80,069, failed much earlier than expected due to flooding and unstable soil conditions.
Significant maintenance works were undertaken in recent years to ensure this section of the playground area was kept safe for all park users, as well as were kept compliant to the standards specific to this equipment, however a recent inspection report advised that the rubber needed to be replaced, as it continues to deteriorate.
The motion will go to next week’s Ordinary Meeting for endorsement.
