There has been a mixed response from the Logan community towards the new parking rates set for Logan Hospital.
It comes as Logan Hospital’s multi-level car park is set to open early this year, with parking fees to apply to park anywhere on the hospital site from then.
When the new car park opens, there will be more than 2,000 parking spaces available at the hospital for patients, visitors and staff to use each day.
It will be free to park for 15 minutes, but from then it will cost $3 to park for 15 to 60 minutes, $5 for one to two hours, $7 for two to three hours, $9 for three to four hours, $11 for four to six hours and $13 for six to 24 hours.
Staff who choose to park at the hospital, will be required to pay a set parking fee.
While many locals have described the prices as reasonable, some have raised concerns that the new parking rates may cause visitors to park elsewhere to avoid fees.
Tiffany Hall says the parking rates for Logan Hospital are good.
“Compared to other hospitals, this seems a lot more affordable.
“If it can’t be free, then I think these are fair prices.”
Leonie Olsen says the all-hospital parking fees could cause issues for nearby car parks.
“Reasonable price, but now to park anywhere on the hospital grounds will cost.
“I would have thought that it would have been just the new multi-storey you would have to pay for.
“People will try and park across at woolies and along the roadside to avoid fees.”
Rebecca Jane says she is concerned of possible parking issues, relating to the re-location of Loganlea Station this year.
“A bit worried about when they move the train station down towards the hospital.
“It’s hard enough getting a park half the time, when the hospital overflow park there.”
While initially scheduled to open last year, the opening of the facility has been pushed back, due to the car park reportedly sinking.
The project required additional structural work, at no cost to Metro South Health.
