More tracks will be laid, level crossings will be bulldozed and stations upgraded as part of a 1.121 billion dollar plan to deliver faster rail services between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Trains between Kuraby and Beenleigh on the Gold Coast line currently share a single track in each direction, which limits the number of peak services that can run each day.
The project will increase capacity by duplicating the track between the two stations and both motorists and commuters would benefit from the work, with five level crossings to be removed and nine stations to be upgraded.
Waterford MP and Attorney General Shannon Fentiman says it’s a win for Bethania.
“I have been campaigning for an upgrade to the Bethania Train Station since before I was elected.”
“The funding announced today for faster rail for the Gold Coast, Logan and Brisbane will mean the end of the level crossing at Bethania! It will also reduce congestion on Station Road and make Bethania station more accessible for our community.”
“The Palaszczuk Government is doing its bit and investing in our communities – but we need the Federal Government to come to the table and fund their share too.”
