Boating is good for you… both physically and mentally.

That’s according to Domenic Genua from the Boating Industry Association, in the middle of National Boating safety week.

In an interview with REBEL FM,   he’s announced details of an American study called “Blue Mind” by author Wallace Nickel.

He says,  not only did researchers discover that boating is good physical activity because it gets you outdoors,  but it’s also good for our minds.

The report found,  When you’re in the water – the “happy” chemicals in your brain can increase,  so you don’t feel “Down and Out”.

You don’t have to travel out to the coast to enjoy the waterways.   He says many a boatie can enjoy local dams and rivers for fishing and sailing.

Kayaks,  stand up paddle boarding and other watercraft have also become common alternatives to the big pleasure boats for backyard boaties.

National Safe Boating Week is an annual event co-ordinated by Australia New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group members  (ANZSBEG) to increase safe practices and promote responsible boat ownership.
