Logan City teachers have taken out almost one-quarter of the top spots in prestigious state-wide teaching awards.

17 teachers from across the Logan area have been shortlisted for the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT) TEACHX Awards this year.

Nearly 400 teachers from across the state were nominated across six award categories, with 74 being shortlisted.

Mabel Park State High School has more teachers shortlisted than any other school in Queensland, with six teachers and school leaders on the list.

Marsden State High School has the second-highest number of shortlisted teachers and school leaders, with five being awarded a place.

John Paul College and Canterbury College each have two shortlisted teachers, while Groves Christian College and Loganlea State High School have one each.

QCT Board Chair Emeritus Professor Wendy Patton said the calibre of nominations from the Logan area was exceptional.

“Our judges were really inspired by the teaching that is taking place in classrooms right across Logan,” Professor Patton says.

“We had a record number of nominations this year and many excellent teachers missed out on being shortlisted. The 17 Logan teachers should be really proud of the difference they’ve made, and are continuing to make, in their students’ lives and communities.”

The Logan shortlisted nominees are:

  • Donald Cameron, Marsden State High School
  • Ping Ding, Marsden State High School
  • Judith Fewtrell, Mabel Park State High School
  • Clair Goodall, Canterbury College
  • Kirri Griffiths, Loganlea State High School
