Work on the Beenleigh city centre upgrade is set to go ahead in less than a month, with big changes ahead for the Logan City suburb.

Division 12 Councillor Karen Murphy said this upgrade was long overdue for Beenleigh.

“We have $5 million to do up the city precinct of Beenliegh,” she said.

“This will be along the main streets of City road, John street, Johns lane, a little bit of George street, and main street.

“We will be restoring, reinvigorating, and reconnecting.”

With the upgrade there will be:

Shade sails for the city centre
Artwork through the city
New footpaths
New bins
New seating
New lighting
CCTV cameras for protection
New landscaping and gardens
Smart parking for the town centre
New arbours
New seven storey Invest Logan building

Councillor Murphy said it was going to be unrecognisable.

“It will be a brand new look for the city of Beenleigh,” she said.

“It hasn’t had a full upgrade like this for many many years. So it’s well and truly overdue.”

Councillor Murphy said she also had hopes to make it a more ‘walkable’ city centre.

“There’s going to be a new level of connectivity from the city centre down to the train station to the court house through to the city centre,” she said.

“All to create a more user friendly precinct for everybody.

“There’s also going to be new landscaping and gardens which will give it a real refresh and a beautiful feel for people to enjoy.”

Councillor Murphy said she hoped the new landscaping and city centre upgrade would instill more community pride.
