RSPCA’s Cupcake Day is a National annual fundraiser for all creatures great and small and it’s a fun way to raise money for animals in need- especially if you have a sweet tooth.

However this year there have had to be some adaptations. For a start the event has been moved from August to October due to COVID.

According to RSPCA Qld spokesperson Michael Beatty there are safe ways to host a Cupcake Day that still practices social distancing and is in line with government restrictions.

“If you go to our website at www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au we’ve put up some tips and resources that should help,” Mr Beatty said.

“The official date this year is Monday October 26 but we’re encouraging all animal lovers to sign up for free online and get their schools, workplaces and social groups involved in hosting a fundraiser for the RSPCA anytime in October.

“Sadly, COVID has definitely impacted funding for RSPCA Queensland and we know times are tough for everyone.

“But all funds raised will go straight into animal care, as the care and hands on support we offer to pets and wildlife in need, never stops.

“Every year over 50,000 animals come into RSPCA Qld care and the RSPCA in Queensland receives less than 4% in government funding. This means that community fundraising events like Cupcake Day are vital.

“Anyone can jump online and sign up to host their own event for free. We have fundraising tips and recipes to help you along the way.

“You can even bake ‘pupcakes’ to spoil your pet, or sell to friends and family for their fur-kids! If you’re not a baker, it doesn’t matter.

“You can still set up your online fundraising page and ask your friends and family to donate to the cause.”

There are 3 easy steps to transforming a traditional Cupcake Day party into a virtual event.

Prepare

You can use Skype, Zoom, Facetime, or Messenger to host your Cupcake Day online. Share your fundraising page to everyone joining and ask guests to donate what they would have contributed to your physical Cupcake Day event.

Plan

Decide what your online event looks like. Will it be a virtual bake-off, a knock, drop and dash in exchange for a donation – take baking orders from your friends, family or work colleagues and deliver them straight to their doorstep! You could even host an online baking quiz, Masterchef trivia anyone?

Party

Party up with your friends and family over a virtual cuppa, enjoy your favourite sweet and savoury treats and share your favourite recipes with your guests. Play some

virtual games and fundraise from home. Don’t forget to hang up your bunting and most importantly tell everyone about all the animals they’re helping!

All these handy hints are on the cupcake day website www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au
