Boronia Heights in Logan City is one of several parts of southeast Queensland that have been declared a catastrophe by the Insurance Council of Australia from Saturday’s damaging hailstorms.
The damages bill stands at about $60 million with more than 5,000 claims in total having been made so far.
Around 60% of the claims are for damage to cars, while 40% are related to houses.
Insurance Council CEO Cameron Fuller says insurers will prioritise claims in the worst affected areas.
The Insurance Council has set up a disaster hotline 1800 734 621 which Mr Fuller says is to provide general guidance to customers about the claims processes, not a claims lodgement service.
