During a five-day span, officers from Browns Plains police station took part in a traffic operation under the banner of ‘Operation Own It’, to encourage motorists to ‘own’ their commitment to driving safely.
Operation Own It is all about putting the spotlight on community safety. At the moment, police are especially looking at safety and behaviour when driving and on the roads.
The theme of this ongoing operation was to encourage motorists to ‘own’ their responsibility to drive safely.
Browns Plains police’s five day traffic operation was held from Thursday, November 19 to Sunday, November 22 as a part of National Road Safety Week and in the lead-up to the December school holidays.
The operation was all-encompassing by conducting random breath tests, license checks, speed detection and vehicle defects.
In total, 1,004 drivers were breath tested.
During this time, police charged several drivers with matters including:
Two drivers driving unregistered vehicles
Three drivers driving unlicensed
One driver driving with a disqualified license
One driver driving an uninsured vehicle
A 35-year-old Boronia Heights man was charged for drink driving after allegedly recording a roadside breath test reading of 0.134 per cent BAC. He is due appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 4.
Two drivers had their vehicles seized for driving whilst disqualified or unlicensed and police will apply to have them forfeited to the State under repeat offender legislation.
Eighteen traffic infringement notices were also issued for the various offences including exceeding the speed limit, driving unregistered vehicles, defective vehicles and learner driver whilst unaccompanied.
Senior Constable Craig Jolly of Browns Plains police said police will continue to engage, educate and enforce.
“We will engage with our local community about why it is important to ‘own it’ when it comes to your driving behaviour and habits,” Senior Constable Jolly said.
“We will educate the community on what they can do to stay safe on our roads, in their homes, and in our communities.
“We will also vigorously disrupt unlawful behaviour on the roads and in our community.”
Browns Plains police warn that if you commit traffic offences in their division, you will be caught.
