Pressure is being put on federal politicians in Queensland to protect elderly Australians in aged care.

A protest was held yesterday outside the office of Federal Member for Rankin, Jim Chalmers.

Dr Chalmers office was one of seven targeted by the Queensland Nurses and Midwives Union.

The rallies followed the release of the findings into the Royal Commission into Aged Care.  The report was handed to Prime Minister Scott Morrison last Friday.

Union State Secretary, Beth Mohle says safety standards in aged care are poor.

“Right now there’s not even a requirement for there to be one registered nurse on duty 24 hours a day. That is just disgraceful! There are other issues that need to be addressed, such as making sure we’ve that we’ve got the right skill mix”.
