Council to release draft environmental health strategy

Logan City Council is planning to take a draft Environmental Health Strategy to the community for feedback.

Councillors voted to release the draft Environmental Health Strategy 2022-2026 for public consultation, as well as for a report to be prepared for a future City Planning, Economic Development and Environment Committee meeting detailing the outcomes of the public consultation.

The motion was moved by Mayor Darren Power, seconded by Councillor Tony Hall and was carried unanimously.

It comes as the the Environmental Health Plan 2018-2021, has reached its end of life, with the draft Environmental Health Strategy 2022-2026 to continue Council’s practice of environmental health planning by building upon the existing framework, as well as continuing the delivery of environmental health services to the community.

The draft EH Strategy introduces a number of new initiatives that do not require additional funding to deliver, recognising emerging issues such as carbon emission reduction, Council’s role in COVID regulation enforcement, promoting active and healthy lifestyles and illegal dumping response.

The draft EH Strategy does not advocate for any individual discipline, Council program or branch, instead focusing on all public and environmental health outcomes across the organisation.

The purpose of the draft EH Strategy is to articulate the services Council provides that contribute to positive environmental health outcomes for the community.

The draft EH Strategy has undergone a comprehensive internal consultation process and is now ready for community engagement.

The motion will go to next week’s Ordinary Meeting for endorsement.
