Beaudesert locals have said goodbye to their fourth generation milkman John Fisher, as he made his final milkrun before retiring and handing over his family business.
Fisher Family’s milk run has stood the test of time, and has been delivering Beaudesert locals their milk since 1917.
John said he was proud to be part of the dairy dynasty his family started 103 years ago.
John said the business’s heritage meant a lot to him and his family, especially when reminiscing on how times have changed.
Back when John’s great-grandparents, Charles and Victoria Fisher, started the milk run they delivered fresh milk from their family run dairy to homes in Beaudesert by horse and cart.
In 1946 their son Clive Fisher took the reins and ran the milk run until 1966 when John Fisher’s parents, John and Shirely Fisher, took over.
John’s parents delivered fresh milk from their two dairies, where they had 40 cows, to Beaudesert homes twice a day well into their 70s.
They were well-known and trusted enough to let themselves into local homes, and pop the milk delivery directly into fridges. A feat unimaginable today.
When John took over the business in 2002 home deliveries ceased.
He rebranded and changed with the times. John was a one-man milk run and delivered milk to local businesses, cafes, and grocery stores six days a week.
Mr Fisher has trained up the new owner and former signwriter Travis Pettit so that Beaudesert can expect their local milk run to return soon.
John and his wife Sharon are keen sailors and they plan to spend the next chapter of their life sailing along the Queensland coast, and spending time with their granddaughters in Western Australia.
