Today (December 2) is ‘It’s Time for Nurses – Opportunity to Say Thank You’ day, and the Logan and Beaudesert Health Service Director of Nursing and Midwifery Services Lorraine Stevenson had some kind word to share.

“Nurses from across Logan and Beaudesert hospitals have stood tall in 2020, a year when it has been more important than ever to honour and thank our healthcare heroes,” she said.

“Our teams worked tirelessly to upskill and boost our Intensive Care Unit workforce as part of the COVID-19 response, while others volunteered to establish and maintain COVID-19 screening clinics across Metro South Health.

“Nurses were deployed to care for patients in the COVID-19 Ward and our Emergency Department teams have continued to deliver world-class care.

“Our surgical, theatre and medical nursing teams have worked hard to ensure hundreds of patients received the surgeries and treatment they needed, and our paediatric nurses have continued to provide care with their little touch of magic to our youngest patients.

With International Year of the Nurse and Midwife and ‘It’s Time for Nurses – Opportunity to Say Thank You’ day Local staff have also taken some time to celebrate what they do, reflecting on why they love being a nurse.

“We provide an amazing standard of care at the bedside”, “we can care for people at their most vulnerable”, “it’s rewarding”, “it makes me happy”, “I can make a difference”, “I can advocate for patients”, “we save lives every day”, “we can steer the next generation of nurses”, some said.

Other local nurses were honoured for their achievements, like Logan Hospital Nurse of the Year Lisa Lucas, a former Emergency Department nurse turned Nurse Educator, and Logan Hospital Nephrology Nurse Practitioner Cassy Stone, who marked 30 years’ service.
