During the Milky Way Market at the Kingston Butter Factory Entertainment Precinct, we caught up with Nate from popular local band Mayan Fox
The below are his responses to questions we asked about the band and the new precinct.
Q: Most of the bands here tonight are from Logan. Where are you guys from?
A: “Unfortunately our guitarist had to pull out with COVID tonight, he’s down south of the border.
We’re all over Logan, but my wife and I and our daughter are in Eagleby.
It’s a real family band. My cousin Jayce plays bass, and we’ve known each other since high school.
My wife, when we got married, the reason we got together is because of music, Dwayne is on the drums, Shannon over the border is on guitar, but he’s stuck at the moment.
Q: How did you guys end up here at the Milky Way Market tonight?
A: My wife and I have been as proactive as you can be on the local music scene trying to get it up and started so a few years ago, we talked to a local councillor about the idea of Logan Live Music Month, which has now come to fruition with workshops and performance.
We’ve tried to be as proactive as possible in that regard, in terms of speaking to people and luckily we’ve been given a few opportunities as a result.
Q: What songs did you play tonight in your set?
A: It’s only a short set because we’re basically trying to crash-test the stage, but we played a song called Drugovision, which is one of our older songs from around 12 years ago, which is just about getting out of the house, Love Every Day, which is also just about enjoying nature, and Rollout, which is our new one, which we’ll be recording in the studio soon.
We record mostly just south of the border. Our producer Gavinder does most of our stuff. Maria, my wife is also at the Con, so for our next recording we’re also going to jump into the Con studios, and she’ll produce it for us.
Q: There are a several bands playing here tonight. Which ones should people check out?
A: “Don’t do that to me, man, just check out all of them!”
“We’ve had a bit to do with Briana Dinsdale, she’s phenomenal and she’s going places”
“This is the first time we’ve heard Machine Age, they were fantastic.
We had a good chat to the Latin band because my wife is from Nicauragua.
There’s such a depth of talent in Logan, so check out every band that you can.
The Beatles started out in a dingy basement and in a garage.
Q: What do you think of the new stage?
A: There’s just such a good feel, it’s a really good vibe here.
I’m really excited about when it officially opens.
It’s just a breath of fresh air for this city, and there’s plenty of room to expand.
Q: Where can people catch you guys next?
A: Gigs have been a little bit tight again, so the best thing is to follow our social media on Facebook – Mayan Fox Official.
We’ve got all our music on Spotify, so please check us out there as well. It’s very hard to get paid on Spotify because you need a lot of clicks, so please check us out!
