Logan and the Scenic Rim are bracing for more severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall with the possibility of flash flooding today and tomorrow.
The Bureau of Meteorology’s Shane Kennedy says the focus of intense rain will depend on whether a coastal trough, currently over the ocean, will move over land.
His main concern is the impact of large totals of rain falling on already-saturated ground and full dams.
Mr Kennedy says there’s still a possibility the trough could remain offshore, sparing the southeast from the worst of intense rainfall.
The wet weather is resulting from an upper trough moving over and enhancing the surface trough near the coast.
The Commander of State Operations for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, Cheryl-Lee Fitzgerald says when it comes to flood waters the message is always the same.
