Logan City Council helping environmental projects

Applications are now open for the latest round of a Logan City Council initiative to help deliver environmental projects across the city.

EnviroGrants offer up to $10,000 to recipients, with a range of grants available:

  • Environmental partnerships and capacity building (up to $10,000)
  • Environmental surveys and research (up to $10,000)
  • On-ground ecosystem restoration (up to $10,000)
  • Environmental education (up to $2000)
  • Individual wildlife carer support (up to $1500)

Environment Committee Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, encouraged locals to  apply.

“Logan City Council has some of the strongest environment credentials in the country  because we are committed to these community-led programs.”

“These grants empower dedicated and passionate City of Logan locals who care  deeply about our native plants and wildlife.

“Council is proud to have supported some fantastic projects over the years through  EnviroGrants.”

A previous recipient of an EnviroGrant is environmental consultant Natura Pacific,  who used drones to detect and survey greater gliders at Park Ridge South.

The animal is listed as vulnerable under both the Queensland Government’s Nature  Conservation Act 1992 and the Federal Government’s Environmental Protection and  Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

Natura Pacific’s Bastian Steinrucken says the Council grant was vital for their project.

“We wouldn’t have been able to carry out this study without the funding from Council.”

“Protecting their habitat is of the utmost importance but we also believe that  improving survey methods and finding new technologies to detect and monitor

Greater glider populations is important to inform both decision-making and educate  the public about the importance of protecting the species.”

Last year, 14 City of Logan wildlife carers were given funding in the carer and  support category.

Seven Land for Wildlife members received funding in the on-ground ecosystem  restoration category.

Some local schools were provided funding to deliver environmental education.

To apply for a grant, email Council at environment@logan.qld.gov.au or phone 3412  3412. Grant writing assistance is available for applicants.

Applications close on Thursday, March 17.
