Logan City mum left without a car

Logan City mum of five, Katiie May, had two of her children with her last Monday (September 28) when her car was engulfed in flames at Waterford.

The vehicle fire left Ms May, who is in her 20s, with smoke inhalation. She was treated on scene and at Logan Hospital.

Ms May said it was a new car.

“I purchased the vehicle on Friday from a family friend for $4000,” she said.

“The Captiva got driven home and sat in my garage.

“Saturday night I went out with my kids on the way home the engine light came on.”

Ms May said on Sunday the car was taken to a mechanic and she was told the problem was fixed.

“Monday morning I drove my father to work at Coomera and on the way back the engine light came back on when I was at the lights near the BP,” she said.

“So I pulled into the BP, then smoke started bellowing out of the engine bay. I automatically turned the car off. Four tradies then grab the fire extinguishers to try and save my car.

“I managed to get my 2 kids’ car seats out of the car before the car engulfed in flames.

“I then got assessed by the paramedics and got taken to hospital with smoke inhalation but got released with no further complications.

“I’m now left without a suitable car to get my children around.”

Ms May said the vehicle fire was being investigated by the appropriate authorities.

School goes back this week and Ms May does not know how she is going to get four of her children to school, and one to day care, without a running car.

“It’s very tough at the moment,” she said.

“I don’t like asking for help.”
