Loganlea family loses home and foster animals in fire

A Loganlea family has lost their home and nineteen foster animals in a devastating house fire.

Local emergency services responded to the fire at Catalina Street, Loganlea, just after 2.30pm on Tuesday.

On arrival, crews found the double-storey dwelling well engulfed by fire on the upper floor, with all members of the Armitage family accounted for outside.

Jade Armitage had just enough time to grab her two-year-old daughter and flee from the house with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

An animal carer, Ms Armitage had been fostering kittens, guinea pigs, and cats for more than seven years.

Unfortunately several foster animals did not survive, with 13 guinea pigs and six cats perishing in the fire.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson says crews had the fire under control just before 3.30pm, with the fire fully extinguished just after 4.30pm.

The house was destroyed by the fire.

A fire investigator says the fire sparked on a couch on the back patio, but they’re not sure what caused it to ignite.

The fire was deemed by investigators to be non-suspicious in nature.

Short term accommodation has been organised for the Armitage family, while a local real estate agency has stepped up to find the family a new property to move into.

A Go Fund me page has been set up to help the family rebuild after the house fire, with over $5,000 raised since the page was launched.
