It appears the recent cold weather hasn’t been enough to stem the mouse plague with concerns it’s moved into greater areas of the Scenic Rim and potentially on the way to Logan City.
But a leading University Professor says it’s only a myth.
Professor Hamish McCallum from Griffith University says it’s not uncommon for mice to “hop a truck” and travel, however there are plenty of mice “already around, everywhere in urban and suburban areas.
“It’s just a question of whether they increase”.
In Boonah, the mouse plague just five months ago was described as the worst outbreak in 30 years.
Scenic Rim residents attempted everything from peppermint oil to poison and for a while got the upper hand but as warmer weather moves in, their numbers have grown.
Meantime, it’s been confirmed Scenic Rim farmers will benefit from the Rural Aid mouse plague fund.
Rural Aid opened the fund in June for farmers from across the country affected by the plague.
Scenic Rim farmers were among those to be successful in their funding application.
