A line of thunderstorms,  from Toowoomba to the Scenic Rim and across Logan City,  has led to nearly 8,000 homes and businesses being blacked out on Tuesday night.

The first storm warning was issued about 4.55pm on Tuesday as a line of storms developed in the Scenic Rim and Southern Downs bringing heavy rain and dropping about 20 millimetres of rain across across the region and hailstones, about 2 to 3 centimetres in diameter at Greenmount,  south of Toowoomba.

In the early afternoon,  Maroon Dam received 51 millimetres  and 60 millimetres was recorded in just one in Logan Central.

That was followed by a second more powerful electrical storm system.

By 8pm,  about 7,500 Energex customers were without power across the south-east.

Some of the worst affected areas included Logan Village,  Buccan, Stockleigh, Mundoolun, Logan Reserve and Chambers Flat.

The Scenic Rim also lost power with Mt Alford, Witheren, Flying Fox and Ferny Glen among the suburbs hardest hit.
