Shrek Musical at QPAC – and your chance to win tickets!

The wait is finally ‘ogre’!

The long-awaited Shrek Musical hits the Lyric Theatre QPAC, Queensland Cultural Centre, in South Bank, Brisbane this weekend!

The family-friendly musical will be running until 7 February 2021, and thanks to QPAC and local Logan City radio station, The Breeze 92.1, you can have a chance at winning one of two family passes for 2 Adults and 2 Children, valued at $300 each.

Breakfast show host Rob Doorey from The Breeze says he’s very excited to see the musical running after being postponed due to COVID.

“It’s so fantastic to see Shrek finally make it to QPAC,” Mr Doorey said. “It’s a great cast, it’s had great reviews and I think everyone will love it.”

Based on the brilliant and Oscar-winning DreamWorks film, Shrek The Musical is a funny and heart-warming story of a witty and ‘onion-layered’ ogre brought to life on stage with all his friends.

The multi-million dollar production features Ben Mingay as Shrek, Lucy Durack as Princess Fiona, Nat Jobe as Donkey, and Todd McKenney as Lord Farquaad, with special guest appearance by Marcia Hines as The Dragon.

The New York Times called it “true happiness” and The Daily Mirror said it’s “the most fun you’ll ever have”, featuring lots of big laughs, fantastic dancing by cast, outstanding scenery and a score of 19 songs.

To catch this unique musical recommended for children five-years-old and up, tickets are on sale at qpac.com.au or you can phone 136-246.

For your chance to win one of two family passes to this brilliant show, head to The Breeze and fill out your details. Then tune into the Rob Doorey’s More Music Breakfast show on Friday, 29th January 2021 on The Breeze 92.1 to listen if you and your family or friends will be heading to see Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, Dragon and all their friends in the Far, Far Away Kingdom.

Logan Art Gallery Exhibition Opening with Mayor Darren Power

Tonight, Logan City locals can be part of the Logan Art Gallery opening of exhibitions by Mayor Darren Power.

Five artists will be showcasing their artwork at the exhibition set to run over this weekend until 27th February, and of those five, four are Logan City locals.

The exhibitions at Logan Art Gallery will offer an insight into outback scenes, family meal times and the amazing animals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Artists Ronelle Reid will feature the collection Urban Menagerie, Richard Connors and his collection Elements, Helena Jackson-Lloyd’s collection Of the desert, Lei Xu’s collection The smell of memory, and Chloe Wigg with her collection Natural resilience: inner feelings, outward reflections.

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power will open the new exhibition round from 5pm on Friday, January 22.

The opening will be held over three half-hour sessions in line with current State Government COVID restrictions.

“This is going to be our opening exhibition for the year, so I’m really keen,” Mayor Power said. “Our art gallery has a high quality of art displayed at all times, but this is a particularly important gallery exhibition as we have four Logan artists and another artist who is from South East Queensland.”

Mayor Power said Logan City residents who appreciate art should get themselves down to the art gallery tonight and check it out.

“Just get down there and have a look,” he said. “I think people will walk into the art gallery and be very surprised.”

Last year, the Logan Art Gallery was recognised with the 2018 Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards (GAMAA), which Mayor Power says is a wonderful achievement.

“We are an award-winning gallery, and I think the best thing councils can do is back their own artists, and that’s what we’re doing,” he said.

It’s free to come along to the event, however, bookings are essential. You can book your preferred session here.

GLOBAL FOOD MARKETS

The Global Food Markets, located in Woodridge, is part of Logan’s first Food Trail which lists popular local eateries in the area offering mouthwatering dishes and fresh produce.

The popular market is open every Sunday from 6am to 12pm, and attracts hundreds each weekend. Last year the market even attracted the attention of British celebrity chef, Ainsley Harriott.

Market Manager, Dean Khieu from The Global Food Markets in Woodridge, says The Global Food Markets are quite unique as they have a lot of fresh produce not available in your local supermarket, such as okra, bitter melon, water spinach, moqua, taro and yu choy.

“All this fresh produce comes straight from the farmer’s land and is harvested the day before to ensure its freshness every Sunday,” Mr Khieu said.

“Here at our markets is where you find those unique fresh produce to make those Asian, African, European or Islander dishes.

“Our stall holders are always more than happy to explain how to use certain fresh produce in a dish or how to cook one, and if you don’t feel like cooking we have an ethnic street food section with food from Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, New Zealand, Africa and more.”

Since its opening in 2005, The Global Food Markets, which started with only five Cambodian and Islander farmers bringing their fresh produce to sell on Croydon Road every Sunday, has expanded to over 100 stall holders and holds a reputation for fresh produce at affordable prices.

“The Global Food Markets has specials throughout the day as each stallholder takes care of their specials,” Mr Khieu said. “It is highly recommended to come early in the morning for the freshest produce, but during late morning you will see lots of specials as stallholders clear their produce.”
