Upcoming 2021 Australia Day Awards have 16 Scenic Rim Nominees

The Scenic Rim Regional Council has just announced the nominees for this year’s Australia Day Awards, and sixteen Scenic Rim residents are being recognised for their outstanding contributions within the community.

The nominees are in the running for The 2021 Scenic Rim Australia Day Awards with three categories for the Citizen of the Year Award: 16 to 30 years, 31 to 65 years, and 65 years and over.

Mayor Greg Christensen said the beauty of these awards, to be announced on Australia Day, is the diversity in nominees’ ages and what they are being recognised for, including a young man who saved the life of his friend after falling from a cliff.

“Then to go through and see a number of our fire heroes who work tirelessly…to a filmmaker who’s working with small businesses and charities to make promotional films to help them get back up on their feet.

“It’s very pleasing to see them getting the recognition.”

Mayor Christensen said for him, the Australia Day Awards are one of the highlights of the year.

“Just the fact that the community has put your name forward is a moment of celebration for people who quite often work quietly away without any expectations, so this is an opportunity to celebrate them,” Mayor Christensen said.

“I really love Australia Day awards because it allows us to shout from the rooftops how great our [community is].”

Last year’s Australia Day Award winners for Citizen of the Year were Grace McDonald, Mark Ayers and Frank White.
