Crews are working to restore power to more than 16,000 homes and businesses across Logan City and the Scenic Rim.

A total of 31,000 were blacked out across South-East Queensland,  including 11,000 on the Gold Coast.

According to Justin Coomber from Energex,  “We have already counted 120,000 lightning strikes for south-east Qld in today’s storms and wind gusts up to 80km/hour”.

No timeline has been estimated on when power will be restored.

The black outs occurred as a result of the storms that moved through the area on Saturday afternoon,  which also caused chaos at voting booths for the Queensland State election.

Golf ball size hail was reported at Hillcrest while other areas are still preparing a damages report.

The S.E.S. is ready to activate and can be reached by calling 132 500.
