$2M improvements for major regional road

$2 million in safety improvement works will soon be delivered along a vital section of the Toowoomba-Karara Road.

The jointly funded project will upgrade the increasingly busy road from Todd Road, Cambooya to Southbrook Road, Felton.

The works will involve widening the road and improving safety for turning vehicles at two important intersections along the route.

Construction is set to begin this month and be completed by this December, weather permitting.

Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey says the improvements form part of the Queensland Government’s record $27.5 billion roads and transport plan.

“Not only are we delivering a record spend on roads and transport over the next four years, but a record portion of that will also be invested in the regions.

“As a key connector between the Cunningham Highway and the New England Highway, improving the Toowoomba-Karara Road is important to locals.

“Wider lanes and intersection improvements make a big difference when it comes to reducing the likelihood of crashes on our regional roads.”

Federal Member for Groom Garth Hamilton says the Federal Liberal and Nationals Government is committed to keeping our communities safe, while securing our economic recovery.

“This project is a fantastic local example of our commitment to get Queenslanders home sooner and safer.

“The Federal Government is working hard to reduce the number of Australians missing around the dinner table due to tragedies on our roads.”

The $2 million in upgrades are jointly funded, with the Australian Government contributing $1.6 million and the Queensland Government contributing $400,000.
