Former Scenic Rim local Jude Coleman has been appointed as the Australia A cricket coach in a full time position.
The former Queensland captain had coached the “A” side to a clean sweep victory over their hapless English counterparts during the Ashes summer.
Having grown up playing club cricket in Beaudesert, Coleman says she is proud of her roots as she takes over in one of Australian cricket’s top coaching positions.
“I was extremely excited about the appointment when it happened… it was an amazing opportunity for me at this stage in my coaching career.
“I really enjoyed playing my junior cricket in Beaudesert. It was a great competition back then and it really helped me develop my skills.
“Unfortunately there were no opportunities for girls once I got back to the age where there was a large physical difference between myself and the boys I was playing against. So I stopped playing cricket at the age of 14.
“Playing in the Scenic Rim certainly helped me develop a love for the game, which you need to have to play and coach the sport for a career.”
She says that cricket followers in Queensland should keep an eye on a couple of her squad members who are now in New Zealand ahead of the World Cup.
“Grace Harris, Georgia Redmayne…they played in the Australia A series, but have since been called into the World Cup extended squad.
