Children from Jimboomba Education and Childcare attended Jimboomba Police Station and spent some time with the local officers.
“We taught them about the importance of ‘Stopping, Looking, Listening and Thinking’ when crossing the road” according to the officers who received the young visitors.
With the help of other Jimboomba Police officers, children practised the safety steps, to cross a mock up pedestrian crossing.
“After practising, we are confident that the children know the best way to safely cross the road” the officers replied.
Senior Constable Bernadette Auld of Jimboomba Police Station said it was great to talk to our young community members about being safe near the road.
“Road safety isn’t just about cars and driving, it’s also about being cautious and careful as pedestrians as well,” Senior Constable Auld said.
“We know that something as simple as this can really help the kids to understand how to keep safe around pedestrian crossings.”
The children were also invited to look at the police vehicles which was, of course, enjoyed by all (as if the smiles don’t give it away!).
