Advice on wearing face masks properly

A reminder that even though the lockdown has been lifted, wearing a mask is still mandatory in Logan City, although there seems to be some confusion about the correct use.

Masks need to be worn in indoor settings such as in grocery stores, shopping centers and on public transport.

That requirement will stay in place at least through January 22 when premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young will likely announce whether or not masks will or will not need to continue to be worn.

Infection control nurse Trish Hurst said some people are not wearing face coverings correctly.

“Some people like to wear them under their chins but that’s not very effective,” she said.

“It does need to be up over your face. I’ve seen people wear them on their heads, dangling around their ears.

“I think if you’re going to wear it, you need to wear it properly.”
