The State Government’s youth crime laws have been introduced in parliament.
G-P-S trackers and a presumption against bail are among the proposed changes for serious repeat offenders..
It’s in response to a number of incidents, including the deaths of a pregnant couple in Alexandra Hills on Australia Day – who were allegedly hit by a 17 year old from Logan City who’s alleged to have been behind the wheel of a stolen car.
The incident led to an online petition aiming to “Clean up Queensland’s Youth Justice Act to take re offending criminals off the street” which attracted thousands of signatures.
Proceedings against the Waterford West teen are due to go back to court next month.
