Outraged Queenslanders are calling for youth justice laws to be strengthened, after an expecting Brisbane couple was killed by a Logan City teen.

The pair died on Australia Day after being struck by an allegedly stolen 4WD with a teenager from Waterford West behind the wheel.

An online petition aiming to “Clean up Queensland’s Youth Justice Act to take re offending criminals off the street” has already attracted more than 50-thousand signatures.

“I believe that if our Youth Justice Act is reformed with longer penalties for re offending Juveniles, and time in prison is longer with no parole given, it will make a big difference to the decisions these killers make on our roads,” the petition reads.

“We will never see our loved ones that have lost their lives to these killers on our roads. We will never have grandchildren and never see them again.”

On Thursday,  police ruled out an earlier report that the teen was “out on bail”.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has promised outraged community members a coronial inquest.

“There will be a full coronial inquiry and this young man is now on murder charges, there will be a full court case and there will be a thorough police investigation,” she said.

“If there’s anything more we can do to strengthen our laws, we absolutely will.”
