Emergency services continue to rescue people from flooded roads

As the torrential rain continues across Logan emergency services are out and about rescuing people.

On Deer Lane at Waterford West paramedics assessed five uninjured people after they were rescued from their flooded vehicle just before 11.30 last night. They didn’t have to be taken to hospital.

Forty minutes earlier they transported a woman in her 20’s with a chest injury and another patient with a leg injury to Logan Hospital after a three vehicle crash on the Mount Lindesay Highway and Green Road at Boronia Heights.

It comes as the RACQ warns motorists to take extra care on the roads in the heavy rain.

Spokesman Graham Metcalf says a severe weather system has already dumped significant rain and more is expected.

“These weather conditions are dangerous, so please reconsider if you need to be on the roads at this time.

“If you must head out, please be extra vigilant and drive to the conditions – slow down, put your lights on and leave extra stopping distance between your car and the car in front. Having your headlights on isn’t just for your safety, but for fellow motorists.

“If you come across floodwaters, be prepared to turn around. It only takes 30 centimetres of water for a car to be washed off the road, so please remember if ‘it’s flooded, forget it’.

“You can also check your route before leaving home by visiting the RACQ Road Conditions website.”

Importantly if you have a life-threatening situation, please call 000 immediately or the SES on 132 500.

Please call the RACQ on 13 72 02 if you need urgent assistance such as your ceiling collapsing, otherwise please go online to lodge your claim.

For those who have RACQ Home and Contents Insurance, your policy automatically includes flood cover.

Mr Metcalf says while you don’t need to wait for insurance assessors to start cleaning up your home, always put your health and safety first and don’t attempt any clean-up if it’s dangerous.

“As the severe weather continues, we urge people to remain vigilant and pay attention to official warnings and take the advice of emergency services.”

The RACQ has deployed additional staff to support members in this extreme weather situation.
