A Logan City Councillor says she is proud to serve a community, filled with inspiring women on International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women
In Queensland it’s a week long celebration, with events held across local communities to acknowledge the important role women play in our society.
Logan City Councillor Miriam Stemp says it’s important to celebrate the contribution, women make to their communities.
To mark the day, Councillor Stemp attended International Women’s Day events at John Paul College (JPC) and the Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG).

“It was great listening to a panel of sportswomen talk about the challenges they have faced during their careers and their amazing achievements.
“It was also wonderful to see so many women coming together at KENG sharing their stories, engaging in activities and even doing a bit of belly dancing.
“I caught up with Shannon Fentiman MP, members of the Rotary Club of Loganholme and met so many beautiful ladies.”
Councillor Stemp says this year’s theme #BreakTheBias is a crucial call-to-action.
“Breaking the bias is important, I believe we need to move past the stereotypes, call out discrimination and help ensure that everyone is treated equal.
“It was wonderful to see parents, teachers and students at JPC come together to celebrate this year’s theme #BreakTheBias, which calls on everyone to work together to achieve gender equality.”

Councillor Stemp took the day as an opportunity to pay tribute to inspiring women that serve the local community.
“I want to acknowledge Debbie Hill, the founder of Lighthouse Care who provides food and support to our community, as well as Margaret Greenway, who is an environmental advocate in my area who heads up the Cornubia Forest Bushcare Group.
“There are many, many inspirational women from business women, sports women, volunteers, students and teachers across our schools and residents arm who all inspire me and give so much to our community.”
Councillor Stemp says together we can all make a difference in creating a gender equal world.
“Imagine a gender equal world, a world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
“A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive.
“A world where difference is valued and celebrated.
“Together we can forge women’s equality.
“Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.”
