Jimboomba op-shop owner vows to recover

The owner of a Jimboomba charity shop is hoping to move forward, after the shop was inundated by floodwaters.

Floodwaters flowed into Now and Zen Community Op-Shop on Cusack Lane in late February.

The op-shop sells secondhand and new clothes, bric-a-brac, books ,toys, crafts, linen, jewellery at very affordable prices, making monthly donations back to the community.

Now and Zen owner Andy Mabey says while it is sad what has happened, she feels for those in need.

Ms Mabey says 13 truckloads of stock was lost during the floods.

“All we have left is what is in the house, mostly bric-a-brac.

“Everything else including clothes, toys, linen was destroyed.

“We had everything packed up, because we were leaving to go to a new shop.

“It knocked us, pretty hard.”

Ms Mabey says the store was heavily impacted by floodwaters.

“We were the main business in Jimboomba that got drowned.

“We’re right in the bottom of Cusack Lane, where the water went over.

“The store was damaged, the power went out and the internet was out.”

Ms Mabey says she has received help from the local community.

“Councillor Scott Bannan had the Mud Army turn up on Sunday, we had around 30 people here, just getting everything in a big pile, so that the trucks could pick it up.

“People also washed up whatever we could save.

“Everything was covered in mud and it smelt really bad.

“Everybody is offering help and they’re holding onto all their nice stuff for our new shop.

“It is an amazing community.”

Ms Mabey says the store is hoping to move to a new location in Jimboomba.

“It hasn’t been confirmed yet, but we are hoping it comes through.

“We just have to wait until we get all the information, then I’ll put it out to the public.

“We might need a help with the move.”
