Dunamis church providing assistance to those in need after floods

A church in Tanah Merah has been providing assistance to nearby residents after it was severely affected by a flooding event.

Dunamis Church had its entire basement area flooded during February’s flood event, and is counting the cost of replacing youth equipment damaged.

They’ve also been assisting a local homeless resident who had her tent damaged in the deluge of rain.

Despite the damage, the church, pastored by Shaun and Sandra Hansen,  want to make sure that their members and the wider community in Logan are looked after as well.

Community Pastors Danny and Melissa O’Brien say it’s good for God’s people to give back to their community.

“We go out once a year and do Christmas hampers. The distribution centre provides 150 hampers and 50 backpacks for the homeless.

“We got out and randomly bless people with hampers.

“We have our dollar and 50 cent pop up shops and our markets once a month.

“We had our first one after the floods, and there were that many people that we didn’t charge them, we just decided to bless them (give the hampers away).

“Some people will always try and take advantage of you but we could tell that the vast majority of people were legitimate.”

Dunamis Church run a Community Market once a month on a Sunday afternoon from 3pm.
They church sell grocery/pantry items, all in date, from 50c each and also sell fruit, vegetables, honey and eggs at extremely discounted prices.

The next markets are being held on 3 April with an Easter theme. The church will be giving away two Easter Egg Hampers worth $200 each and also providing a free Easter Egg Hunt for all children.
