Shailer Park State High School is in the midst of construction, with the state government working to deliver a $1.53 million multi-purpose hall refurbishment and a $8.1 million new learning centre.
The refurbishment of the multi-purpose hall is due for completion by early 2021.
The project is a collaboration between the Department of Education and the Department of Energy and Public Works under the community use of schools program.
This partnership expands on an existing relationship between Shailer Park SHS and Logan Basketball to accommodate the use of the revamped basketball facilities for the next 10 years.
The state government is also delivering a new $8.1 million (GST exclusive) learning centre at the school and the refurbishment of two senior science classrooms, which is forecast for completion by the start of the school year in 2021.
According to an education department spokesperson, the new building will provide eight general learning spaces and two specialist learning spaces, which will be used as robotics and electronics laboratories.
“The building will also contain two breakout spaces, a staff workroom, two meeting rooms, amenities, staff car parking, bicycle parking, a new shade shelter and improved connectivity,” the spokesperson said.
“The learning spaces and staff workroom will be air conditioned.
“The undercroft of the new building has been designed for an additional future 10 learning spaces and staff workroom.
“These new learning spaces will cater for approximately 200 Year 7 students in 2021 bringing the schools total enrolments to over 1200 students.
The department is thrilled to be delivering these two new projects at Shailer Park SHS, which will create a total of 32 local jobs.”
