Awards to recognise environment heroes

City of Logan’s eco heroes are again set to be recognised.

Nominations are open for the Logan Eco Awards, which highlight residents who are helping to create a more environmentally-friendly city.

Environment Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven is urging eco heroes to apply.

“Not all heroes wear capes, which is why it’s important we celebrate our  environmental champions.”

“We know our community loves natural areas and wildlife. The work that these  amazing people do to protect and enhance our city’s environment benefits everyone  in Logan.”

The main award is Eco Champion. It’s judged on a criteria that includes those who  have helped the natural environment in rescuing injured animals, improving eco efficiency in their home or restoring and protecting bushland on their property or on  Council land.

A Junior Eco Champion tag will go to a school student who has led or joined  environmental activities at school or in a community group or outside the classroom.

Businesses which have reduced energy consumption or waste output, educated staff  about environmental issues or demonstrated environmental initiative can bid for the  Eco Business award.

Not-for-profit organisations can enter the Eco Organisation section, awarded to a  group that is reducing its environmental footprint, conducting student or community  environmental education activities or undertaking environmental advocacy.

Award nominations close this Friday.
