Logan City residents planning trips to the beach and other local waterways, when things return to normal, are being urged to make water safety a priority due to concerns about an increase in drownings this summer.
There have been several near drowning incidents involving young children across Logan City in the last week or so, while on the Gold Coast there have been incidents of adults drowning in recent weeks.
Paul Barry with Royal Lifesaving Queensland said we need to keep safety top of mind every time we get into the water.
“We need to put a lifejacket on, we need to swim with a friend so someone can help us if we get into difficulty,” said Barry.
“We’re focusing on getting out of lockdown, having fun and being active so unfortunately occasional tragedy does occur.”
