Community recovery hubs support locals

As the clean-up commences, community recovery hubs across Logan continue to offer support to flood-affected residents.

The community recovery hubs are places where residents can have food and drinks, collect essential supplies, charge their phones, as well as receive face-to-face financial assistance and emotional support following recent floods.

Community recovery hubs across the city, include the Beenleigh PCYC and the Logan Village Community Centre.

Logan Village Community Centre President Cheyrl Pridham says there is plenty of support on offer to those in need.

Ms Pridham says the community recovery hub at Logan Village has been a collaborative effort.

“We have been working with local, state and federal government ministers to co-ordinate efforts from this central location.

“People have been delivering items to us and we are making sure it goes where it is actually needed.

“We have been working with the Lions Club to organise deliveries for those worst hit.

“We have also been working with 5Fold at Yarrabilba to access showers at the Shaw Street oval complex.”

Ms Pridham says the flood highlighted the need for community recovery hubs across Logan.

“Logan Village was cut-off, it has been a little bit inconvenient, but those of that have lived out here for a long time understand.

“How do you get to Crestmead or Beenleigh, when you are cut off from everything.

“How do you also tell people that they have no power.

“We need to do better in disaster management.

“We should already have places where people know where they can go to for help.”

The Logan Village Community Centre is open daily from 9am to 2pm to support flood-affected residents.

The Beenleigh PCYC is open daily from 9am, seven days a week at, 20-38 Alamein Street, Beenleigh.
