A proposal has been put forward to Logan City Council to trial rentable electric scooters at sites across the city.
Council has been approached by Beam Mobility to explore opportunities to provide between 200 and 300 E-Scooters in select locations.
A private enterprise, Beam Mobility will fund the initiative, with the scooters to be maintained by a team of 15 staff.
The scooters are electric powered, bookable via an app on your phone and are parked in public areas.
This initiative would allow residents to rent electric scooters for trips around Underwood, Slacks Creek, Springwood, Logan Central and Meadowbrook.
Councillor Jacob Heremaia says it is an exciting proposal.
Cr Heremaia posted about the initiative to social media to gauge the reaction of locals, with many residents raising safety concerns.
He says residents will be able to have their say on the proposed trial.
“Whether it is E-Scooters on our streets or whether it be a major road upgrade, people should be able to have a say and people should be able to influence their government through the democratic process.
“Some of the major feedback I received from the community when it came to this proposal is that they want to be informed about what is happening with the E-Scooter proposal, they want to make sure that people are kept safe and our footpaths are kept safe.”
Cr Heremaia says the E-Scooters have many potential applications.
“A lot of people in our City need new transport models.
“You’ll be able to take an E-Scooter to the local bus stop or station.
“It is about connecting people’s homes to places where they need to go, whether that be public transport or their work place.”
