Federal Treasurer visits Griffith University’s Logan campus

Federal Treasurer and Rankin MP Jim Chalmers visited Griffith University’s Logan campus last week ahead of the Jobs and Skills Summit in Canberra in September.

He was there with Assistant Education Minister Anthony Chisholm to hear about the work the university is doing to create pathways for students into the workforce.

Dr Chalmers studied at Griffith University and says he knows all too well that Griffith are experts when it comes to connecting aspiration with opportunity.

“ I met with some of the passionate and driven academics and students last week. I was left in no doubt about the great potential we have to reform our jobs market and create more opportunities for Australians to succeed in the future.”

“Unions, employers and governments are an important part of the process, but to create secure, well-paid jobs and deliver a more productive workforce, we must draw on the knowledge and expertise in our universities and across our community.”

“The historic Jobs and Skills Summit and Employment White Paper being delivered by the Albanese Government will help us to achieve that.”

“I look forward to engaging with Griffith University more in the lead-up to the Summit in September.”

“And I encourage anyone keen to shape reform in our labour market to contribute to the Employment White Paper over the next 12 months.”

“The last two years have been difficult for our nation but Australia’s future is bright.”

“We will continue to work hard to bring people together, address our challenges and build a better future for more Australians.”
