Jeta Gardens aged care facility in Bethania explains how it’s preventing another COVID-19 outbreak

The aged care facility in Bethania where 15 residents have died issued a statement last night explaining what it’s now doing to prevent further COVID-19 deaths.

“Jeta Gardens is taking all steps to ensure the safety of our residents and staff as we manage the  recent COVID outbreak by providing detailed information to families, on the extensive work being  taken to mitigate risk of another outbreak.”

“Our staff are working tirelessly to care for residents, and we have established an additional way for  families to remain updated at all times, via our Family Connect hotline and dedicated email service  operating daily.”

“We have also provided our residents and their families clarity around steps taken since we declared  an outbreak on 24 December 2021, and steps that have been taken since, alongside Federal and  State health authorities.”

“It is now six days since we have had a new case of COVID recorded on 29 January, and we will  continue to repeat PCR testing of all negative resident cases every Monday, Wednesday and Friday,  until 28 days have passed since the last new positive case.”

“Ninety-nine percent of our nursing staff have returned to work at full capacity, with three staff  remaining furloughed, and the Surge Workforce that assisted us greatly last week, finished on site Friday 4 February.”

“Jeta Gardens team has also appointed specialist Nurse Advisors from Health Generation and  Consultant Gerontologist Dr Drew Dwyer to assist us with clinical governance, best practice infection  prevention and control and training to all staff. As we move forward out of this crisis management  situation, Jeta Gardens will re-establish itself as a modern and contemporary aged care service.”

“And with our specialist advisors, we continue to meet daily with Federal Health, the Public Health  Unit, and Aged Care Quality Commission to identify resources and other support required.”

“We are very thankful for the support provided by the various government agencies and specialist  advisors involved in our outbreak management. We remain committed to delivering the best care for  the Jeta Gardens community and are confident in our push towards success.”
