Young learner drivers and their parents living in the Scenic Rim area are encouraged to attend a Learner Driver education evening on 21st October.
The program isn’t about operating a car, it’s more about the risks and realities of driving and how easily accidents can happen causing significant injury or death.
A local Ambulance officer who has attended the event for many years, tells the young audience that he is the one who finds them injured or dead on the side of the road, and that he is the one who has to phone their parents to let them know what has happened.
The community program has been run annually for 15-years by the Canungra Local Ambulance Committee. The group’s President Virginia West says a father who lost his son to a road accident, brings his son’s ashes to the event and talks to the young drivers about losing a friend or family member to a road accident.
The event is being held at the Canungra Bowls Club on the 21st October at 6:30pm.
If other community groups are interested in implementing the training program in their area, Canungra Local Ambulance Committee President Virginia West is happy to share the program. Virginia can be contacted on 0407 630 052.
